The news was revealed during a New Map Preview of Horizon Lunar Colony at the tail end, which you might’ve missed if you didn’t watch until the very end.
The latest Overwatch map Horizon Lunar Colony, will arrive with the next Overwatch patch 1.12, which is set to release on June 20, 2017.
In the developer video, we also got to hear from the Overwatch development team and found out some interesting factoids about Horizon Lunar Colony.
For instance, did you know that the map was originally teased on the Dorado map as an easter egg? The moon shimmers and twinkles with the lights of a far away city.
Some of the design philosophies behind the map were also discussed. As this is the first map that’s 90% indoors, the Overwatch team wanted to use the map to refine the currently existing gameplay types, but also experiment. That’s why there’s an area on the map that has low gravity, for instance, but it’s very small.
Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan also says that they’ll be doing a lot of analysis on the map once it releases to determine upcoming balance and tuning decisions.
If you want to test out Horizon Lunar Colony a little early, the PTR is still up, though it’s quite likely it will be taken down soon in preparation for the next Overwatch patch.
